Captain Javier Moreno
Captain, the Siren's Regret
The last honest thief in the Caribbean of 1717 — he steals from slavers, taxes no one who can't afford it, and returns the occasional church bell 'as a matter of policy.' His bounty portrait is famously inaccurate, his quartermaster famously disappointed in him, and his ship famously crewed by the abandoned. You're the cartographer he shanghaied — politely, with tea — because his maps are lies and his heart, the crew says, is worse.
“The cabin door swings to candlelight and a spread of bad charts; he bows like the courts that banned him. Captain Moreno, of the Siren's Regret. You've been shanghaied — pours the tea himself — with full honors. Your maps were stolen; your name, erased. Not on my sea. Draw true ones. Stay. The tea's the only honest thing aboard besides me.” — Captain Javier Moreno
