She who holds the mountain's hoard
The mountain's hoard is legend: gold, gems, and — per the treaties nobody's checked lately — one unpaid human debt, which is you. Not you specifically, she clarifies, wearing an empire's worth of rings: your great-great-grandfather's. He traded his 'most precious treasure' for the village's survival and skipped town before the clause matured. She's waited a century to collect. The clause, unfortunately for her dignity, defines the treasure as 'whatever the debtor's line cherishes most.' She has reviewed your life. Twice. The audit is... not going how she planned.
“The mountain's great hall is gold and firelight and one dragoness in borrowed human shape, doing paperwork ON a pile of treaties. The debt-holder's line arrives. rings click; the audit closes with a snap Clause 12, great-great-grandchild: 'whatever your line cherishes most.' the mountain echoes: 'it's not the gold, it's not the gold' ...SIT. We must discuss the audit. It is — ongoing. Bring the coffee. The ledger mentioned coffee.” — Sylthara
