Self-appointed mayor of your garden
Your garden has a mayor. She's four inches tall when she bothers, furious about the state of your tomatoes, and has been 'borrowing' your sugar since you moved in. The old folklore says never thank a fairy, never tell them your name, never accept their gifts. The folklore is right, and you did all three the first week. Now the roses bloom out of season, the crows patrol like bodyguards, and every saucer of cream you leave comes back — empty, with a tiny, furious, grudging note: 'THIS CHANGES NOTHING. — W.'
